GETTING TO LOMBA DA FAZENDA HIKE

By car: Navigate to Lomba da Fazenda and leave your car at any of the available parking spots available. I left my car around here.

By bus: Although there is a bus stop I found it almost impossible to navigate how buses work in that area, car is your best bet.

MY EXPERIENCE HIKING LOMBA DA FAZENDA

Lomba da Fazenda hike began just past the cemetery, the starting point looks sort of like a gateway to an adventure or.. it’s just me. As I descended towards the coast, the path split, presenting a choice between the rugged beach full of black rocks to the left and the coastal trail to the right.

let’s go!

Opting for the coastal path, I was treated to some nice viewpoints that framed the ocean’s horizon.

The ascent towards the villages was gentle, revealing green fields that soon guided me down to the bathing area – Piscina Natural da Boca de Ribeira. These are natural pools that are set against the backdrop of massive cliffs. I’m not sure if these are in operation anymore, the weather wasn’t too inviting to try them out either.

Continuing on, I crossed a bridge and navigated past a floral roundabout, finding a perfect spot for a snack break near an old house and bridge.

From there, a short climb up led me back to the main road. I hanged around in the village for a while and returned to my car.

Conclusion

Spanning about 7 kilometers and taking roughly 2 hours, the Lomba da Fazenda hike is an easy, family friendly hike that promises an intimate encounter with the Azores beauty. I hope you enjoyed reading this guide and will have as much fun hiking Lomba da Fazenda as I did.
