LAGOAS EMPADADAS + BOCA DO INFERNO VIEWPOINT

Lagoas Empadadas is an awesome hiking adventure through a secluded Lake District, located in the picturesque Serra Devassa mountain range. Here you can discover numerous serene crater lakes scattered across this incredible terrain that used to be a vital source of clean water for Ponta Delgada’s fountains in the 19th century. This hike takes you through numerous lakes with pristine water and the very famous viewpoint: Miradouro da Boca do Inferno.

GETTING TO LAGOAS EMPADADAS

By car: Make sure to arrive early, I recommend parking your car at Lagoa do Canario carpark.

By bus: Although there are several bus stops across the island, I found it almost impossible to navigate how buses work in that area, car is your best bet.

MY EXPERIENCE HIKING LAGOAS EMPADADAS

Venturing to Lagoas Empadadas has become a bit of a running joke for me – five attempts, five disappointingly cloudy days. But hey, they say persistence pays off, right? Despite my bad luck, I’m still convinced this trail deserves a spot on your must-see list. With just three trails left unchecked on this island, Lagoas Empadadas remains one of them. So, even though I haven’t had the chance to fully experience it, I’m sharing its details in the hopes that you’ll have better luck. Keep your fingers crossed for clear skies and get ready to soak in the breathtaking views, including the famous Miradouro da Boca do Inferno. Have fun!
